چکیده
Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), predominantly caused by Candida albicans, is estimated to affect about 138 million women each year worldwide and 492 over their lifetimes. Recurrent VVC (RVVC), defined as four or more episodes of in a year, increasingly recognized constitutes up 10% the cases VVC. RVVC an important clinical global public health challenge project that will 160 per 2030. significantly affects quality life affected women. Host factors, such underlying immunosuppressive conditions genetic predisposition, are suggested key risk factors for recurrence. However, higher prevalence non-albicans (NAC) species, C. glabrata, tropicalis, krusei, parapsilosis, dubliniensis, guilliermondii, others, which either intrinsically resistant azoles have minimum inhibitory concentrations most antifungal agents, fluconazole, commonly used treatment VVC/RVVC, has been reported. Therefore, remains challenge. Long-term maintenance required avoid recurrence symptoms. Alternative includes boric acid topical amphotericin B; however, they associated with serious side effects, limiting use. The oral echinocandin ibrexafungerp well-tolerated efficacious against vulvovaginitis. presents unique area continued research development.

Fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans vulvovaginitis.
OBJECTIVE As a result of high recurrence rates of Candida albicans vaginitis, successful suppressive fluconazole is widely used, and drug resistance is considered rare. We report increased occurrence of secondary fluconazole resistance, analysis of risk factors thereof, and describe management of fluconazole-refractory vaginitis. METHODS Patients referred to the Vaginitis Clinic at Wayne Stat...
متن کاملCandida glabrata: an emergent opportunist in vulvovaginitis.
BACKGROUND Candida genus has various species. The incidence of C. glabrata has presented itself with more frequency over the past years with clinical importance. METHODS A case study was made to determine the frequency of C. glabrata in 468 patients who presented clinical symptomatology for vulvovaginal candidiasis and the in vitro response for fluconazole using two methods: diffusion in agar...
متن کاملAntifungal susceptibilities of Candida species causing vulvovaginitis and epidemiology of recurrent cases.
There are limited data regarding the antifungal susceptibility of yeast causing vulvovaginal candidiasis, since cultures are rarely performed. Susceptibility testing was performed on vaginal yeast isolates collected from January 1998 to March 2001 from 429 patients with suspected vulvovaginal candidiasis. The charts of 84 patients with multiple positive cultures were reviewed. The 593 yeast iso...
متن کامل[Recurrent vulvovaginitis: diagnostic assessment and therapeutic management].
Recurrent vulvovaginitis is a common problem in clinical practice. Management is often complicated by a long history of inappropriate treatments based on tentative diagnoses after an incomplete diagnostic workup. We review the most common causes of recurrent vulvovaginitis; the appropriate steps with which to establish a diagnosis, from the medical history through to the additional tests needed...
متن کاملPrevalence & susceptibility to fluconazole of Candida species causing vulvovaginitis.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Vulvovaginal candidiasis is an important cause of morbidity in women of reproductive age. This study was carried out to determine the species prevalence and susceptibility pattern to fluconazole of yeasts isolated from the vagina of symptomatic women. METHODS This prospective study was conducted in a rural primary health care center of north India from May 2003 to April...
